ElevenLabs — best if voice quality is the whole point

ElevenLabs remains the reference point for how natural AI-generated speech can sound, and its voice cloning is close enough to a real recording that it holds up for podcast intros, video voiceovers, and multilingual dubbing without the "obviously AI" tell that cheaper tools still have. For a founder narrating their own content in a cloned version of their own voice, or localizing content into other languages without re-recording, this is the tool built for exactly that job. It's a standalone voice tool, not an editor — you'll still need something else to actually cut your audio or video together.

Descript — best if you want one tool for the whole edit

Descript's core idea is editing audio and video by editing a text transcript — delete a sentence in the doc, it's cut from the recording. AI voice generation (including a cloned version of your own voice, called Overdub) is one feature inside that larger workflow, useful for fixing a flubbed line without re-recording the whole take. If you're already producing a podcast or video series and doing your own editing, this replaces more of your stack than a voice-only tool does; if you only need clean voice generation and no editing, it's more tool than you need.
